What
is Reiki?
Reiki is a natural healing
method that heals on all levels: mental,
emotional, spiritual
and physical.
“Reiki” is a combination of two Japanese words:
Rei universal life
force
Ki
life energy
“Ki” in Japanese is
“chi” in Chinese or “prana” in Sanskrit.
Each word describes
the divine energy that flows through all living
beings, including plants and animals.
Put the two together and “Reiki” means “universal life force
energy.”
Who
created Reiki?
Dr. Mikao Usui experienced a
profound spiritual awakening after several years of intense
meditation and a
study of Christian and Buddhist practices in the US, China, Tibet and
Japan. In a small monastery he found some ancient Sanskrit writings from
India
(or per-
haps
Tibet). After meditating on these writings for 21 days on
Mount
Kurama
in
Japan, he rediscovered the healing energy. This happened some time in 1921.
Although Dr. Usui was
Japanese, Reiki is truly a universal life-force energy that has no
nationality.
It is a powerful, loving force that heals people all over the world. Dr. Usui
taught several Grand Masters these special skills.
One of these people was Dr.
Chujiro
Hyashi. In 1936, Dr. Hyashi
trained a woman from
Hawaii
,
Madame Hawayo Takata.
Madame
Takata then brought Reiki to the
US
and taught the precepts to 22 Reiki Masters.

What is a Reiki Treatment?
For a Reiki treatment, the
Reiki practitioner calls on this universal energy and sends it
where healing is
most needed. The practitioner’s hands are used to send the energy to
different
parts of the body. The healing
energy of Reiki goes to the source of the prob-
lem, not just the symptoms.
By using her hands, a Reiki
practitioner directs the energy to several places on the head
and body. Three
positions are on the head, nine are on the body and four optional place-
ments are
on the back. A full Reiki session sends healing energy to every organ of the
body.
For a Reiki session, the
client is fully clothed and reclines on a massage table.
How Can You Benefit from Reiki?
On
a physical level, Reiki may assist the body's own natural healing processes to
boost the
immune system and restore energy. Recipients may experience reduced
pain, faster healing,
release of toxins and relaxed muscles.
On
an emotional level, Reiki can soothe anxiety and assist in the release of
emotions pro-
moting a sense of calm and improving sleep patterns.
On
a spiritual level, Reiki often helps people connect on a deeper level with this
universal
life force. Through this process, many discover that there is more to
life than just this
physical existence. Feeling Reiki flow through your body
often changes spiritual perspectives.
Will Reiki Harm You?
No.
The energy channeled in Reiki
is positive, never harmful, always helpful. And, there is
no such thing as “too much Reiki.”
Reiki goes where it needs to go and the body receives
what is
necessary…no more and no less.

Just for today I will give thanks for my many blessings.
Just for today I will not be angry.
Just for today I will not worry.
Just for today I will do my work honestly.
Just for today I will be kind to every living thing.
One of the really wonderful things about
Reiki is that you do not need to do anything
but have an intention of
receiving.
